Counselling for Children and Young People
Sometimes children and young people go through difficult times in their lives. They might struggle with worry and anxiety, eating issues, friendship issues, loss of a parent or family breakdown.
Talking in a safe space to someone independent and outside of their family circle is helpful, children don’t have to worry about upsetting anyone or causing family difficulties.
Our therapists are specially trained to work with children and young people, if it is appropriate, they will use art or play materials to help children express their feelings. They may use storytelling, using different characters to help them explain what is happening in their lives. The counsellor will use different ways of working with different children depending on what suits them.
Counselling can help children and young people make sense of and understand why they feel the way they do.
Counselling can help children develop coping skills and build resilience; these are skills that they can draw on for the rest of their lives.
Support for parents
It can be very worrying for parents when they see their child struggling. Support for parents can be particularly helpful if your child doesn’t want to come for counselling, our counsellors can support you to support them.
I cannot thank the therapist at the practice enough who supported my daughter. She changed from being a sad and anxious child to being happy, confident and now enjoys going to school and being with her friends.
